The Merit and Demerit of AI in Education

education

Look around you. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is everywhere today. Whether it is our phones that we keep with us all the time, our cars, or some random machine. AI has been making waves in every single field around the world, including education.

So, AI is transforming the landscape of education to help us make a better future for ourselves by simplifying everything for us. Well, it all sounds like a dream, but trust me, nothing is perfect. Everything has its pros and cons, and so does the AI. So, in this blog, I am going to show you both sides of this picture to help you better understand it.

Merits of AI in Education

Personalized Learning

Well, if we talk about the benefits of AI, the first thing that pops up in our minds is personalized learning. So, it is the most noticeable advantage of AI that is changing the lives of many students around the world by helping them identify their flaws and assisting them in getting better at academics.

So, personalized learning is nearly impossible in traditional academics as teachers don’t have enough time to focus on each student separately. They have to take everyone together. But it is not impossible for AI. If you are weak at math, then it will focus more on this subject to help you improve.

Instant Feedback

You know, for me, waiting is the most difficult job in the world. Well, don’t judge me, in fact, most people in the world literally hate to wait for anything even if it is their results. But what can you do, you still have to wait for it.

So, you know, an exciting part about AI is that you don’t have to wait to get feedback on your performance or online quizzes. In fact, everything is instant. You take an online quiz and get your results instantly. Hence, you get instant feedback on everything through AI.

Accessibility

You know, many people around the world are not getting an education just because it is not accessible to them. Just imagine living in a remote town and traveling a hundred miles daily to attend your school. I am exhausted even by the thought of it. But thanks to the AI, the education is now much more accessible than before. Forget about going to your school; you can take your classes from the comfort of your home now. So, things have changed a lot since AI.

Improved Learning Methods

Well, education is perceived as boring by students and that feeling is mutual among all the students around the world. But not anymore, as AI has made learning much more fun and interesting than ever before. With technologies like interactive whiteboards, digital books, and Virtual Reality, things have taken a massive turn in the educational sector. Now, learning is much more engaging and interesting for students. And you know, they can even hire professional CIPD writing services to assist them with their academics.

Fewer Errors and More Efficiency

When it comes to efficiency, then we know that machines are much more efficient than humans. So, integrating AI into the educational sector means that not only are we minimizing errors, but we are saving a lot of time as well. As AI is much more efficient than humans.

Demerits of AI in Education

Lack of Human Touch

Ah, no matter how much good AI is, it still lacks the human factor. You can use it to improve your learning methods, but it cannot provide you with emotional support and motivation that you really need sometimes. Your teachers are your best friends. They know when their students need encouragement and support and stand with them to help them through their academics successfully. But unfortunately, AI can’t do that.

Dependence on Technology

One of the biggest disadvantages of AI is that it’s making students depend on it completely. Well, obviously, it has made things much easier for students but students are now relying on it too much. Using tools like ChatGPT, Grammarly or other such tools are hindering the thinking capability of students. Which is quite crucial for their learning. So, everything is good when it is used to a limit. But an overdose of everything has its side effects.

Privacy Concerns

Privacy matters a lot for this generation. However, AI systems need a lot of information from you to generate personalized learning plans for you. And you don’t really know if that information is secure or not. So, you really just can’t trust every software online with your personal information. But you need to make sure that it is authentic and that you value your privacy firsthand.

High Costs

Integrating AI into the education sector is not at all cheap. Schools really need to invest a lot in getting the latest technologies for themselves and has to train their teachers too. So, it is quite expensive to implement AI in educational sectors. Hence, it is not a piece of cake for anyone as it requires lots of investment.

Teacher Training

Suppose that you manage to integrate AI into the educational sector. But what’s next? I mean, who is going to use that? Well, no one is born with the ability to use such processes but they need proper training to operate these systems. So, even if you successfully implement AI systems in your school, you will still need funds to initiate training for your staff to make the most out of it. Otherwise, your efforts will all go in vain.

Wrapping it Up!

In a nutshell, nothing in this world is perfect. So, it is always better to look at both sides of the picture and not just the one that the world is showing you. I know it is good to stay positive and always know the merits of AI in your academics. But you must know about the demerits as well to stay prepared for the possible consequences of AI on your learning. So, it is just about finding the right balance for yourself. Happy Learning students!
