WHITE MARBLE. PRODUCTION AND PROCESSING.

WHITE MARBLE PRODUCTION AND PROCESSING
WHITE MARBLE PRODUCTION AND PROCESSING

Marble is a material that can combine seemingly incompatible things: strength and unique beauty. White marble is rightfully considered one of the most beautiful natural stones. The variety of shades and patterns amazes the imagination. Ordinary people know it from sculptural works of art and architectural monuments – and true connoisseurs know how diverse and amazing it is in creating private interiors.

The hue and unique pattern formed by many veins is determined by the combination of different minerals and their distribution in the stone mass. The main color of the stone depends on which element will dominate. If the stone contains few minerals, marble takes on a classic light shade, ranging from cool pearl to milky white. A classic example is the well-known Bianco Carrara marble. Pure white marble is composed of more than 50% of the mineral calcite.

Marble is divided into three groups according to its colour structure:

  1. The fabric is uniform white with slightly noticeable inclusions and veins of light gray or light yellow.
  2. The main color clearly shows a pattern characteristic of brecciated rocks.
  3. The third group includes marble, the color of the main background of which can vary from white to light gray. Pinkish, gray and yellow veins are clearly visible on the background.

The lighter the marble, the higher its price. The most affordable is considered to be a stone of a grayish shade with a clearly expressed pattern. Pure white marble is considered the rarest, and therefore the most expensive stone. Faintly noticeable veins are allowed. The most expensive elite type of marble is mined in the North of Italy – Carrara (Carrara Calacatta and its other subspecies). The color and shade are greatly influenced by the factor where exactly the marble was mined.

The main, most famous deposits that gave us the most noble and exclusive varieties are located in Italy, but white marble is also mined in Turkey, Greece, Namibia – and even in America. The most famous American analogue of Carrara marble is Kolega, mined in the Urals. The largest and most productive marble deposits are considered to be those located in Italy, Turkey, and Greece . White marble is also mined on the territory of the American Federation, which is similar in all characteristics to Italian marble.

Marble is known for its durability. This quality is almost its main advantage. For all its strength and hardness, the stone is quite easy to machine. Due to its structure, the stone can easily withstand drilling and even carving. In order to give marble that same noble and recognizable shine, the material is carefully polished. Most often, white marble is used for wall cladding in the interior and exterior. When choosing a stone for floor finishing, it is necessary to pay attention to its structure. It should be fine-grained.

Other types are not suitable for laying floors due to their technical characteristics. White marble visually expands the space and goes perfectly with other materials – for example, wood. But this is basically a very capricious material that does not tolerate low temperatures, high humidity and various types of pollution. It requires careful special care, without the use of conventional chemicals and abrasives

The grain structure has an impact not only on the method of application, but also on the type of final processing. For fine-grained stones, polishing or grinding is used; for medium- and coarse-grained stones, bush hammering is used.White fine-grained marble is considered a particularly valuable material. This is due to the fact that due to its structure it has a uniform background.

You should not choose such a stone for cladding external walls and surfaces.Due to some physical features, it loses its original appearance over time. Yellowish spots may appear on it, and its shine disappears. Therefore, it is worthwhile to approach the selection of the type of stone for a specific object and its proper care very carefully.

Advantages of white marble

  1. White marble is considered a kind of standard of purity and quality.
  2. The high degree of decorativeness of the material made it popular among architects and sculptors.
  3. White marble goes surprisingly well with any materials, textures and colors. Most often, individual interior elements are created from it, such as stairs or steps, fireplaces, columns. Such marble is also used for finishing facades, but not often, since it is believed that it is easily soiled and quickly loses its luster under the influence of negative environmental factors.
  4. The physical characteristics of white marble are no different from other types of natural stone. It is durable and wear-resistant. The stone may not lose its original properties even after 100 years of use.

White marble will always be popular and will attract attention – due to its extraordinary harmonious beauty and unique texture. But only a competent selection of material and appropriate proper care will ensure maximum durability of products made from it.
